Covéa Insurance plc is a UK general insurer specialising in commercial, motor and property insurance. It's parent company is the French insurer Société de Group d'Assurance Mutuelle Covéa (Covéa Group). Covéa Insurance was formed in October 2012 following the parent's acquisition and merger of three longstanding UK insurance businesses - Provident Insurance, MMA Insurance and Gateway Insurance. It has approximately 1.2 million policyholders in the UK. The company employs over 1,000 people across their network of UK offices. On 25th February 2015 Covéa Group acquired another UK insurance business, Sterling Insurance Company Ltd.〔Letter to Sterling policyholders from John Blundell, MD Sterling, and James Reader, CEO Covéa Insurance, dated August 2015〕 Subject to legal and regulatory approval, Sterling's general insurance business will be transferred into Covéa Insurance from 1st January 2016. The parent company, Covéa, is number 1 for property and liability insurance in France and served over 11 million policyholders, generating €16.5 billion in premiums in 2014.
